An Unexpected Honor

Time: Friday afternoon

Place: Main Lecture Hall, Austin Hall, Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts

I was checking my voicemails out in the hallway, while they were running through some announcements at the Summer Session of the National College for DUI Defense.  A colleague from Ohio opened the door and said, "Tom!  Get in there!  They're talking about you!"

I dropped what I was doing, and went into the lecture hall. As I entered, I saw the Dean of the College, Peter Gerstenzang, at the podium, and he said "There he is!" as everyone started clapping.  "Come on down to the front, Tom!"  I walked to the front of the room, and was awarded a plaque as a Sustaining Member of the National College for DUI Defense.  I don't even remember what nice things Dean Gerstenzang said, but the whole thing caught me totally off guard.

I am very proud to be associated with the College. Teaching here has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to more involvement with the College in the years to come. I have learned so much from these fine lawyers over the past ten years.  I am proud that someone thinks I have given something back as well.
