Doing the Impossible
September 2014
An administrative license suspension invalidated three months after the deadline, and the underlying DUI case dismissed altogether the week before jury selection.
One evening in September, Tom was visiting a local drinking establishment and struck up a conversation with a local businessman. The man was upset because his best employee had picked up a DUI in June, and was looking at a long time without a license to drive. Tom said he'd look into it if the employee called him.
The next day, the employee called. After reviewing some of the paperwork from the arrest, Tom realized that the case presented a very good case to defend. However, the administrative suspension was going to be tougher, since there is a ten-day deadline to challenge the DMV suspension of the drivers license.
The employee asked Tom to do what he could, and so we took over for the Public Defender. Less than a week later, the administrative suspension has been invalidated, and the criminal case is dismissed. Sometimes, everything just comes together.
